The Bodies in Translation Arts and Activism Directory recognizes, commemorates, and documents activism in the arts in Canada. In this project, ‘activist art’ refers to fat, aging, disability, d/Deaf, and mad art through a decolonizing lens. Bodies in Translation is creating this directory as a resource for artists, curators, programmers, researchers, and the general public to discover, connect, and engage with artists and their work.
About the project
This project is produced by Bodies in Translation: Activist Art, Technology, and Access to Life (https://bodiesintranslation.ca/) at the University of Guelph, an SSHRC-funded research project that explores the relationship between cultivating activist art and achieving social and political justice. Bodies in Translation is co-directed by Carla Rice and Eliza Chandler and our team is comprised of researchers, artists, curators, practitioners, and community members across Canada.
Purpose
The purpose of the Arts and Activism Directory is to highlight and profile artists in Canada who are exploring activism and social, cultural and political representations or resistance in their practice. Artist profiles on the directory will link to publicly available information online, with consent by the artist.
The directory can be used by researchers, artists, curators, programmers and will be made available to the general public to use.
The directory will be developed with the feedback and participation of artists, curators and our research partners who will have the option to submit the following information to the directory: Bio, social media, website, images, press, exhibitions history and contact information.

One of the goals of the Arts and Activism Directory is to promote and recognize artists by supporting your platform and your work. Our intention is that your participation in the directory may lead to opportunities and relationships with researchers, curators, organizations, and/or other artists.

If you choose to participate, you may contact us at any time to make changes to how your information is used and included in our directory. You may withdraw your profile page and information at any time, without consequence.
